Enjoy the charm of Oura, the sea right in front of SHIMODA TOKYU HOTEL!
It is a flat walking path that takes about 15 to 20 minutes one way.
The Wakanoura Promenade, which follows the coastline, is a scenic 2.5 km course that is also featured in France's Michelin Green Guide.
It takes about 6 to 7 minutes to walk down from the garden of SHIMODA TOKYU HOTEL through the pool to the beach, then 1 to 2 minutes to the entrance to the promenade, and a leisurely 25 to 30 minutes to reach Shimoda Aquarium.
There is a small grassy park along the way, which is a good place for a snack.
*The Wakanoura Promenade will be closed from Tuesday, September 17, 2024 to Monday, March 10, 2025 due to construction work to prevent rockfall on the slopes.
Let's take a walk along the Wakanoura Promenade!

After walking a few dozen meters along the Wakanoura Promenade, I looked back at SHIMODA TOKYU HOTEL.

We head towards the aquarium, with the crystal clear waters of Oura visible on our right.

Along the way, you can clearly see the strata on the mountainside. Can you see any traces of the time when the Izu Peninsula was under the sea?

This rock is called "Kappa Rock" by the locals. Someone always makes eyes on it.
Apparently there are other interesting rocks too. Why don't you go and look for them?

We have arrived at Shimoda Aquarium, the end of the Wakanoura Promenade.
You can see the dolphins without a ticket.

If you walk further from the aquarium, you can see the sea around Inubashiri Island, where the Black Ships were anchored and where Shoin Yoshida attempted to stow away. There are many people fishing.
