TOKYU HOTELS & RESORTS CO., LTD.
TOKYU HOTELS & RESORTS CO., LTD. (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jun Murai) is collaborating with Asahi Yuusu Co., Ltd. (Sumida-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shimon Takamori; hereinafter referred to as "Asahi Yuusu") to upcycle used toothbrushes and hairbrushes from the in-room amenities of the hotels we operate, and to develop products tailored to the customer demographics of each hotel in an effort to reduce waste. As the first step, we have developed a shoehorn, and will be selling accommodation plans that include a shoehorn from October 1, 2023 at SHIN-OSAKA ESAKA TOKYU REI HOTEL.
This initiative involves upcycling toothbrushes and hairbrushes*2 made from Kaneka biodegradable biopolymer Green PlanetⓇ (hereinafter "Green Planet")*1, developed by Kaneka Corporation (Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Minoru Tanaka, hereinafter "Kaneka"), which are in-room amenities at hotels operated by our company, using Asahi Yu-As's technology to develop products tailored to hotel customers.
For the first project, the company selected SHIN-OSAKA ESAKA TOKYU REI HOTEL, with which Asahi You As has had a relationship, including hosting a sustainable event in collaboration with the company in 2022. As many of the hotel's customers are business travelers, the company decided to develop a shoehorn. The company will set up an accommodation plan that includes a shoehorn made from Green Planet toothbrushes and hairbrushes used by customers at the hotel, and distribute the shoehorns to customers who use the plan.
