From toothbrushes and hairbrushes made from 100% plant-based, biodegradable plastic to coasters

Upcycling Used Guest Room Amenities, Part 2
From toothbrushes and hairbrushes made from 100% plant-based, biodegradable plastic to coasters
Starts Tuesday, December 12th at KAWASAKI KING SKYFRONT TOKYU REI HOTEL

TOKYU HOTELS & RESORTS CO., LTD.

TOKYU HOTELS & RESORTS CO., LTD. (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jun Murai) is collaborating with Asahi Yuusu Co., Ltd. (Sumida-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shimon Takamori; hereinafter referred to as "Asahi Yuusu") to reduce waste by upcycling used toothbrushes and hairbrushes at the hotels we operate and developing new products.
We are pleased to announce that we have developed coasters at King Skyfront TOKYU REI HOTEL and will begin using them in guest rooms and the hotel cafe from Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

This initiative involves using Asahi Yuasa's technology to upcycle toothbrush handles and hairbrushes*2 made from Kaneka biodegradable biopolymer Green PlanetⓇ (hereinafter "Green Planet")*1, developed by Kaneka Corporation (Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Minoru Tanaka, hereinafter "Kaneka") for in-room amenities at hotels operated by our company, and developing new products.

Following the shoe horns announced at SHIN-OSAKA ESAKA TOKYU REI HOTEL in September this year, the second step will be to upcycle Green Planet toothbrushes and hairbrushes used by guests at KAWASAKI KING SKYFRONT TOKYU REI HOTEL into coasters and place them in guest rooms and "The WAREHOUSE BUSINESS LOUNGE & CAFÉ" (1st floor).

To implement this initiative, the hotel has prepared collection boxes specifically for used Green Planet items. This is because mixing in materials other than Green Planet, such as regular plastic, makes it impossible to upcycle purely Green Planet. After guests check out, cleaning staff will place only Green Planet amenities into the dedicated collection boxes. Guests will be informed of this upcycling project, and if they are willing to cooperate, they can also place the items themselves. The dedicated collection boxes will start in the elevator halls of the guest room floors, on the 4th and 5th floors, and will then be installed on more floors in sequence.

TOKYU HOTELS & Resorts established its Sustainability Policy in 2019 in order to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through its hotel business. This policy defines three sustainability goals (visions) - "Earth-friendly hotels, town-friendly hotels, and people-friendly hotels" - and six key sustainability themes (themes that we will focus on among social issues). With a deep awareness of the perspective of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), we will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through our hotel business.

KAWASAKI KING SKYFRONT TOKYU REI HOTEL opened as the world's first hotel to use low-carbon hydrogen, and continues to implement a variety of environmentally friendly initiatives.
