TOKYU HOTELS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jun Murai; hereinafter referred to as "TOKYU HOTELS") has been working to reduce plastic waste since April 2021, and is pleased to announce that it will implement new measures in fiscal 2022 with the aim of further reducing plastic waste.
TOKYU HOTELS established the "Sustainability Policy" (※1) in 2019, proclaiming its commitment to being "an earth-friendly hotel, a city-friendly hotel, and a people-friendly hotel," and is taking various steps to realize a "sustainable society" through its hotel business. Starting in April 2022, the company will be implementing the following four new measures.

1. First toothbrush made with Kaneka's biodegradable biopolymer Green Planet® introduced in Japan
Starting April 22, 2022, Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Minoru Tanaka; hereinafter "Kaneka") will introduce toothbrushes with handles made from Kaneka biodegradable biopolymer Green Planet® (hereinafter "Green Planet") to the hotels it operates (*2). Green Planet is a material that biodegrades even in seawater and contributes to reducing marine pollution (*3). Kaneka's philosophy of "Kaneka makes the world healthy. KANEKA thinks "Wellness First"" is compatible with our company, which promotes "hotels that are kind to the earth, towns, and people," and this product has been adopted. This will be the first toothbrush using Green Planet in Japan. At the same time, the packaging will also be changed from conventional plastic to paper.
Starting on April 22nd, Earth Day, a day when people think about the global environment, the initiative will be gradually introduced at THE YOKOHAMA BAY HOTEL TOKYU and YOKOHAMA TOKYU REI HOTEL in Yokohama, which has been selected as an "SDGs Future City."
2. Changing guest room amenities from plastic to eco-friendly materials and eliminating them altogether
In fiscal 2021, we took the lead in reducing plastic waste by replacing or eliminating one-way plastic amenities at 19 TOKYU REI HOTEL with eco-friendly materials and changing the way amenities are provided from permanently in the guest rooms to a system where guests can choose from the "amenity corner" near the front desk.
In fiscal 2022, in order to further reduce plastic waste, TOKYU HOTEL and EXCEL HOTEL TOKYU will be changing razors and hairbrushes to eco-friendly materials, switching packaging to paper, and eliminating shower caps. Body towels will also be changed from one-way to linen (excluding some stores).

3. Eliminate plastic bottles provided free of charge in guest rooms at all stores
In fiscal 2021, as part of TOKYU REI HOTEL' brand initiative, we eliminated the free plastic bottled water provided in guest rooms and gradually switched to water servers.
In fiscal 2022, TOKYU HOTEL and EXCEL HOTEL TOKYU also eliminate the plastic PET bottles that they provide free of charge in guest rooms and switch to alternative materials and water servers.

4. Use eco-friendly cutlery for takeaway products
We will change the plastic cutlery (spoons, forks, knives) provided when serving takeout items to eco-friendly ones. In addition, we will gradually change the stirrers and straws used in restaurants and banquet halls to eco-friendly ones (during fiscal 2022).

The new filters will be introduced at THE YOKOHAMA BAY HOTEL TOKYU and YOKOHAMA TOKYU REI HOTEL (the brush part is made of nylon), and will be gradually introduced from June onwards (the brush part is made of 100% plant-based biomass nylon).
The system is planned to be introduced at all locations except PARTNER HOTELS operated by TOKYU HOTELS and some TOKYU HOTEL.
