A spring drive to enjoy spectacular views, art and coffee

Spring arrives early in the Izu Peninsula. Why not take an artistic drive this year?
When you travel, you tend to pack your schedule with everything you need to do, but spending time at one spot can open up new worlds and leave a lasting impression. After enjoying the art woven by nature at Jogasaki Coast, a spectacular view in East Izu, take a coffee break with your favorite book at a stylish book cafe nestled in the forest. Then, visit a rare temple where you can fully appreciate the works of Hiroshi Senju, one of Japan's leading painters. Enjoy a leisurely artistic trip to Izu this spring.

There is a terrace where you can take a break between walks, so we recommend bringing a packed lunch.

Enjoy the spectacular view from the cape and the thrill of the suspension bridge

Jogasaki Coast

The varied lava rock coast is a 9km hiking trail centered around Kadowaki Lighthouse. You can enjoy magnificent views from the coast, and the suspension bridge along the trail is 48m long and 23m high, making it a thrilling experience. From the observation deck of Kadowaki Lighthouse, located near the suspension bridge, you can get a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, including Oshima Island.

Hiroshi Senju's paintings are also displayed in the Zen meditation room on the second floor. This one depicts rough waves.

The sliding door painting was done by Hiroshi Senju. The piece in the photo is "Waterfall."

Experience Sakujin Senju at a hidden art spot

Jukoin Ito Betsuin

At the Ito branch of Jukoin Temple, a Rinzai sect temple in Kyoto, where the grave of tea master Sen no Rikyu is located, you can view 77 sliding door paintings by Japanese painter Senju Hiroshi, which he painted over the course of six years for eight rooms. The paintings were donated in 2002 at the request of the previous head priest of the temple. It is truly luxurious to be able to see so many of these works up close at once.

A special time created with coffee and books

Kochuten Books and Coffee

This book café has an impressive wavy roof. The shelves are lined with books on art, photography, architecture, and more. The menu only offers specialty coffee. Spend some time simply enjoying a book and coffee in a comfortable space surrounded by trees.

The interior of the store is like a museum, with white walls.

It's also nice to spend time in the courtyard surrounded by buildings.
