Kenrokuen Garden

Kenrokuen is one of the three most famous gardens in Japan, along with Kairakuen in Mito and Korakuen in Okayama. It was named after the six outstanding landscapes it has, or "six views." Kenrokuen was created over a long period of time by successive feudal lords of Kaga as a representative feudal garden of the Edo period. It is loved by Okinawan residents and tourists from around the world as a garden where you can enjoy the beauty of every season.

Kanazawa Castle Park

It began in 1546 when Honganji Temple built Kanazawa Mido, and opened to the public in 2001, more than 450 years later. The Hishi Turret, Gojikken Nagaya, and Hashizumemon Tsuzuki Turret have been restored with respect to historical accuracy, using traditional wooden framework construction methods and with consideration for barrier-free access, such as elevators.

Nagamachi Samurai Residence Site

If you head down a back street from Korinbo, Kanazawa's central shopping district, you'll feel as if you've wandered into a time-warp zone, as you come across the remains of a samurai residence where former Kaga feudal lords lived. The stones of the earthen walls are Tomuro stone, which was also used in the stone walls of Kanazawa Castle. Strolling along the intricately intricate stone-paved alleys typical of a castle town, you can experience the atmosphere of the feudal era.

21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa

The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa is a flat circular building (113 meters in diameter) with a completely glass perimeter and a modern white building. There are four entrances so that anyone can drop in easily, and since artworks can be displayed anywhere, the whole building becomes one large exhibition space. The museum owns and exhibits about 250 pieces of contemporary art from Japan and abroad. It is a new tourist spot in Kanazawa, focusing on works from the 1980s onwards that "propose new values."

Higashi Chaya District

Higashi Chaya District, one of the three major teahouse districts in Kanazawa, is the area that has retained the most of its atmosphere. Rows of latticed houses line the streets, and from dusk onwards the sounds of shamisen, taiko drums and flutes can be heard. Even today, there are eight teahouses here, where you can enjoy drinks and food while appreciating the arts.

Omicho Market

Omicho Market, packed with high-quality ingredients, mainly freshly caught seafood from the Sea of Japan, is a local kitchen that has continued since the feudal era. There are over 170 stores selling not only fresh fish but also processed seafood, vegetables, fruits, prepared foods, and clothing, and it is always crowded with locals and tourists. The restaurants in the market that serve fresh seafood are also popular with locals.

Sai River

Along with the Asano River, the Sai River is one of Kanazawa's most famous rivers. In contrast to the Asano River, which is known as a "female river," the Sai River is known as a "male river" due to its majestic flow. The great writer Muroo Saisei repeatedly depicted this river in his works until his death at the age of 72. A literary monument to Saisei stands on the river's banks. The river is a place of relaxation for Kanazawa residents, where Momiji can enjoy strolling along the river while feeling the changing seasons.
