World Heritage Site and National Treasure Himeji Castle

Himeji Castle, a national treasure that remains beautiful for over 400 years

In December 1993, it became Japan's first World Heritage Site, along with Horyu-ji Temple in Nara.
Himeji Castle is affectionately known as "White Heron Castle" because of its graceful appearance, which resembles a egret spreading its wings.
Its distinctive features include brightly colored castle walls made entirely of white plaster, a five-story, seven-storey main tower, and three smaller towers on the east, west and north sides connected by connecting towers.
