Brand History

Located on the former site of the prestigious restaurant "Hoshioka Saryo"

The hill of Hie Shrine, where "The Capitol Hotel Tokyu" is located, has been called "Star Hill" since ancient times as a scenic spot with beautiful stargazing. From the end of the Taisho era to the beginning of the Showa era, the rare gourmet Kitaoji Rosanjin presided over the members-only restaurant "Hoshigaoka Saryo", and it flourished as a place for many politicians and business leaders to socialize.

20 years at the Tokyo Hilton

In December 1958, under the "cooperative relationship between Japanese and American companies" between the US Hilton and the Tokyu Group, Hilton International provided its best hotel management know-how, while Tokyu secured the land and personnel to operate the hotel for a 20-year contract. Then, on June 20, 1963, just one year before the Tokyo Olympics, Japan's first foreign-owned hotel opened in Hoshioka.

A historic takeover

When the contract expired 20 years later, the hotel was taken over by the Tokyu Group. The takeover took place from New Year's Eve 1983 to New Year's Day 1984, without a single day of business interruption.
Symbolizing the handover, the two representatives handed over the hotel keys to each other. The climax of the event was the lighting ceremony, when the sign atop the hotel was instantly switched to that of the Capitol TOKYU HOTEL, making for a truly moving takeover.

After that, the Capitol TOKYU HOTEL

After 20 years as the Tokyo Hilton Hotel, and 23 years as the Capitol TOKYU HOTEL, the hotel has led the development of Japan's hotel industry under these two names. Beloved by VIPs from Japan and abroad, as well as famous artists such as The Beatles and The Three Tenors, the hotel closed its doors in November 2006, much to the regret of its many guests. What has supported this 43-year history is the guests who loved the hotel, and the "spirit of hospitality" that has been passed down as its DNA.

In the fall of 2010, the hotel was renamed "The Capitol Hotel Tokyu."

In the fall of 2010, the hotel began a new chapter in its history as "The Capitol Hotel Tokyu."
