Ryosenji Temple in Shimoda, where Commodore Perry's black ships arrived and the Treaty of Shimoda, the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan, was signed.
The Black Ship Festival in May sees many related events being held, attracting many tourists and guests.
Adding a literal "flower accent" are the American Jasmine flowers that bloom all over the grounds of Ryosenji Temple.

Black Ship Festival and American Jasmine

The Kurofune Festival is held every year on the second weekend of May at Ryosenji Temple and surrounding areas.

At Ryosenji Temple, the highlight of the Black Ship Festival will be a reenactment of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan.

During the Black Ship Festival, the town of Shimoda takes a trip back in time to the end of the Edo period.

Shimoda residents will be dressed as people from the Edo period to welcome you.
