Opening on October 8th

[Full view of the building at the time of opening] It was a five-story building with 70 guest rooms (now 112). In Shimoda, where hot spring inns are the norm, a Western-style hotel was a rare building.

Black Ship Festival

Shimoda City's largest festival, which has been held since 1934 (but was canceled during the war), will celebrate its 77th anniversary in 2016.
Since the year after it opened, our hotel has been used for VIP accommodations, welcome parties, and luncheons.

A welcome reception was held in the garden that same year.
Every year, dignitaries from the United States such as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, the Commander of the U.S. Navy in Japan, and the Commander of Yokosuka Naval Base stay at the hotel.

We were honored to be attended by Emperor Showa and Empress Michiko.

In March 1970, the Shizuoka Shimbun newspaper carried an article about Emperor Showa and Empress Michiko's visit to the Susaki Imperial Villa, which was under construction.
We stayed at this hotel on March 16th.

Spring 2017: Towards becoming an even more beloved hotel! ~Renewal vision~

CONCEPT

Centered on creating facilities that meet the needs of all generations and passing on traditions
We will be renovating with the concept of "returning to our roots."
We aim to evolve into a destination-oriented hotel that people will want to visit again and again.

The completed lobby lounge will make the most of the excellent views.

The completed restaurant image is one where you can enjoy both Japanese and Western styles.

An example of how the twin room will look when completed. We will provide beds that can comfortably accommodate three or four people.

What to expect after the renovation

[Increasing the enjoyment of food]
・Restaurants will be concentrated on the first floor, allowing customers to enjoy both Western and Japanese cuisine.

[Improving the comfort of the hot spring baths]
・We will be expanding and renovating part of the hot spring bath, which has been requested by many customers.

[Enhancing facilities]
・We have a permanent banquet hall with a great view that can accommodate the needs of various banquets, including weddings.
・The bar corner will be revived in the lounge overlooking the sea, creating a space where people can gather and become the face of the hotel.

[Enhancing guest rooms]
・It will be transformed into a twin room with comfortable beds that can accommodate 3 or 4 people.
・Deluxe rooms are now available, including rooms with the best views and rooms with view baths.

[Increase the appeal of your garden]
Taking advantage of the excellent views that have been highly praised by customers, we will redevelop the garden into an attractive one, including creating a flower walking path where you can walk, view flowers, and enjoy the changing seasons.

In the fall of 2016, the current boiler was to be retired due to renovation work on the entire building. We turned the basement heart of the hotel into a gallery, displaying the solidly constructed "sectional boiler" that has been working day and night in the basement for 54 years since the hotel opened.
